Folk Surrealism
Lynn Coleman has been exploring the combined genres of surrealism and folk art for the last eight years. She has evolved a series of painting/assemblages that melds concepts derived from Freudian psychology with folk constructions. Found materials are combined with traditional oil painting to create a nether world of complex symbolism depicting a sense of dreamlike fantasy. The result is intimate Dali-like tableaus juxtaposed with graffiti and recycled materials.
